I love sushi….and Jesus!

A couple months back, I mentioned that our church had finally found a new pastor. I was overjoyed. Last month, he began his tenure at our pulpit. Let me assure you, the excitement I felt the day the congregation voted to offer him the job has not diminished in the slightest. I’m actually looking forward to Sunday mornings at church. Wow! It’s been so long since I’ve been able to say that and actually mean it.

My sister, truly an angel here on earth 😇, is uber-involved in the church. She’s been a member of nearly every committee the church has, an Elder on Session, a member of the choir, she’s a volunteer extraordinaire. She’s also the head of Outreach, and my love and admiration of her is exactly how I got roped into joining the “committee.” Now, I use that term loosely because there’s only three of us. What can I say, we’re a small church. The plus side of such a small group is that we can hold meetings nearly anywhere. Last night was my first Outreach meeting. We went to Yokoso. Why? Because we love sushi and Jesus!!

Now, I’ll happily employ any excuse to go eat sushi. You wouldn’t even have to twist my arm! Here’s the thing…I do my best thinking while I’m eating. When my tastebuds are happy and my stomach is satisfied, my brain seems to work much better. So the three of us met our new Pastor at Yokoso, pulled up some seats at an outdoor table, and got down to business. We brainstormed how to grow the church, to reach out into the community, and to continue the traditions we hold dear even in these uncertain times. The food was good, the conversation better, but the fellowship was by far the highlight of my evening. It felt good to feel like I was a part of something meaningful.

I’ve been struggling lately in what seems like every aspect of my life. I feel like I just can’t catch a break. I’m stressed, I’m frustrated, and I’m overthinking absolutely everything. I need something to be excited about, something to look forward to, somewhere to belong. After last night, I believe I’m headed in the right direction. Who knows? Maybe I’ll even get back to two sets of footprints 👣👣
