Technology can be an amazing, wonderful thing. It can also be the bane of my existence. Such was the case last month, and apparently again today.
On June 19th, I walked into work only to discover that CDK was down. For those that don’t know, CDK is the operating system used by over 15,000 car dealerships. When it isn’t functioning, work in the accounting office comes to a grinding halt. For a week and a half, I twiddled my thumbs, cleaned, read, and was generally bored at work while realizing that the restoration of CDK would mean a few weeks of working overtime to play catch-up.
Fast forward one month. I walked into work this morning only to discover that we have no internet due to the Windows outage. No internet means no work. Here we go again! I’ve been here two hours, and there’s no update on when we can expect it to be restored.
My office manager called our controller and said “if something happens on August 19th, I’m done!” Agreed! This is beyond frustrating. In theory, getting paid to do nothing sounds like a good thing. The problem is that it makes for a very long and boring day. Now I have to create ways to keep busy so I don’t fall asleep at my desk. Even when I can’t work, sleeping on the job is still frowned upon!
If you’re counting, this is #7. It’s short, but I’m working on something bigger. Thanks for reading, and stay tuned!!
